The most dramatic scenery Iceland has to offer will unfold in front of you as you travel along Iceland's southern coast to the town of Vik and back again.
Southern Iceland Tour From Reykjavik
This stop is aimed to get a small breakfast if needed and to use the bathroom before heading to the first attraction of the tour.
Skógafoss Waterfall is 25 meters wide and 60 meters high. Experience the noise water can make falling down a cliff and be maybe lucky by seeing rainbows formed by the spray of this natural wonder.
With only just about 320 inhabitants does Vík have a lot to offer. You can either have some lunch in one of the restaurants or take a short walk to the beach to have a look at the famous Reynisdrangar.
In Reynisfjara, or Black Sand Beach, you get to experience the raw and alluring force of the North Atlantic and its masterfully shaped basalt column cliffs. The site is equally beautiful as it is dangerous, and should be approached with a healthy level of awe and respect.
We take a short walk up to the glacier snout of Sólheimajökull, a sublet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull, where you can witness the dynamics of Icelandic glaciers, their formation, behaviour and rapid melting.
This magnificent waterfall is 66 meters high and let’s you even walk around it. But be careful: You might be soaked afterwards. On a good day you will also be seeing the Westman Islands or Vestmannaeyjar from here.
After drop-off we will head to our headquarter at Skógarhlíð 10.
The Southern Iceland Tour offers a convenient drop-off and pick up service from many of the hotels in the area. If your hotel is not included, we can direct you to the nearest point which will be close by.
This is a 10 hour tour that involves a moderate amount of walking. As the name suggests you will be trekking along the southern coast, and this will include two waterfalls, a glacier, a village and the infamous black sand beaches.
Being on the Southern side of the country you will notice the extremes of weather more, but the beauty that this creates is unforgettable. Firstly you will stop at Skógafoss waterfall which is ranks in the tallest waterfalls in Iceland. For those up for the challenge, climbing the stairs takes you to the top where you can take in the view. As the tour continues, you will visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall, the village of Vík which offers a glimpse into native life, and the black volcanic sand that are the beaches Reynisfjara. You also get to see part of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier which caps the Katla volcano. Sólheimajökull is the tongue of the glacier and an impressive sight that you certainly don’t see everyday.
