After breakfast in your riad in Marrakech, set off toward Ouarzazate, crossing the renowned Tizi N’Tichka pass (2,260m) through the beautiful High Atlas Mountains. Visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, Morocco’s largest and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enjoy lunch by the Kasbah, then journey onward to Dades Valley, passing through Ouarzazate, “Africa’s Hollywood.” Stop in the charming village of Kalaa M’gouna, famous for its roses and rose-infused products. Following the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” capture some of the most memorable photographs of your journey. You will stay in a Luxury Hotel in Dades Valley with dinner and breakfast included.
Day 2: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Merzouga
After a nice breakfast in the desert, begin the day exploring Dades Valley, where you’ll see the unique rock formations known as “Monkey Fingers” and discover the historic 19th-century Ait Yul Kasbah. Continue the trip toward Tinrghir and Todra Valley, enjoying panoramic views of Berber villages nestled along the valley. Take a short hike through Todra Gorge. Proceed to Erfoud and Rissani, crossing the stark beauty of the black desert. We will arrive in Merzouga by afternoon, where you’ll embark on a camel ride across the sand dunes to the Luxury Golden Camp Merzouga for an amazing night in the desert. You could try Sand Surfing there!
Day 3: Merzouga to Fez via Midelt and the Atlas Mountains
Begin your day with an early wake-up to witness the sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast. Return by camel to the village, where your driver awaits to take you on the journey to Fez. verifiedWe could not have been happier with our 3 day tour through Birdmi. I was a little nervous about the guide finding us and showing up at our riad within the medina, but it all went smoothly. Mustafa was our guide and he was terrific. We felt we got a driver, a guide and a history teacher all in one. He shared so much interesting information with us that we would never have discovered on our own. Mustafa was very personal and flexible. He presented possible stops, but it was up to us if we wanted to stop and for how long. He was an excellent driver. He never got lost and he even knew some shortcuts! I had asked to stay in Boumalne Dades rather than in Ouarzazate so we would have a little shorter drive on our second day to Merzouga. Birdmi was accommodating and we stayed at an intimate boutique inn near the gorge. It was beautifully designed. We were told we would be at one hotel, but it was switched to what I found to be a much more beautiful place and location. Not complaining! The camel treks and Golden Tent Camp were great. It was the highlight of our 2 week trip for me. Camels, tents, food, sand boarding, music, fire after dinner, and friendly, knowledgeable staff!. I even saw a shooting star. All great! We enjoyed the beautiful drive up to Fez—especially the monkeys and the ski resort area that felt like Switzerland. Our guide got us to Fez right on time, which was important because our daughter and her fiancé needed to catch a train to Casablanca to catch a flight. It was hard to say goodbye to Mustafa as we felt we had made a good friend.
