Full Description

Ephesus Small Group Tour From Kusadasi/ Selcuk

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kusadasi/ Selcuk or meet you at Kusadasi port in the morning. And then we will start our journey to the second-largest city in the Roman EmpireEphesus. There were over 250.000 people in the 1st BC. Ranking only behind Rome, it was the second-largest city in the world. It was also a harbor city. And, this large city was built only with marble. The impressive thing is Ephesus had the largest amphitheater in the ancient world and there are over 25.000 seats! You will also see Goddess Nike, Local pharmacy, Hadrian Gate, Library of Celsus (the third largest library), Marble Street, and Harbor Street there. We will spend 2 hours there.

You will then visit one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World Temple of Artemis, also known as the Temple of Diana. It was a Greek Temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis. 30 min stop in there.

Another stop is Meryemana The House of Virgin Mary, is a Catholic shrine where Mary, the mother of Jesus, spent her last years of her life. She was supposed to arrive at Ephesus together with St. John and lived there in the years 37-45 CE until her Assumption or Dormition. We will stop there for around 1 Hour.

Next stop is AtatThe Isabey Mosque (built in 1374 – 1375) is one of the oldest and most magnificent works of architectural art remaining from the Anatolian Beyliks. The mosque is situated on the outskirts of the Ayasuluk Hills at SelcukEphesus.

Another stop is State Agora. It is on the southern part of the Basilica and was built in the Roman Period. During the excavations in the northeast corner of the Agora were found many graves from the 7th-6th centuries B.C and a stone-paved road, and a archaic sarcophagus of terra cotta.

You will also visit the Temple of Domitian. It is the first structure in Ephesus known to be dedicated to an emperor.

Last stop is Hercules Gate. The gate towards the end of the Curetes Street. The name comes from the relief of Hercules. Only the two side of the columns remain today and the other parts of it have not been found.

After visiting all the historical places, we will drop you off in your hotel or back to Kusadasi port.

Excellent trip, very well organized. Our guide Aishe was very caring, friendly and humourous and presented historical facts with amusing anecdotes. Even the visit to the ceramics workshop and leather show (not announced in the program) were very interesting and there was no hassling. I would strongly recommend this trip and the company which offers it to everyone!!!
